On Missing
Polish-Nigerian collaboration with director Moji Kareem (Utopia Theatre) for Wretched Theatre company, 2018.
Adam co-devised and co-directed On Missing, commissioned by Wretched Theatre Company, with support of the Arts Council England, performed at Voila Europe! Theatre Festival at the Cockpit, London, 2018.
The piece was created through a 3-week intensive Research and Development process, with collaboration of Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and the University of London. With three Nigerian and three Polish actors we studied the diaspora of two major migration groups in the UK, their theatre and cultural heritage and artistic methodologies. We looked at the sensation of 'missing' one's origin, identity, language, family, homeland in a metaphorical sense of a 'missing limb'. For that, we collaborated with the researchers from the University of London and incorporated their methods of working with the patients suffering from the 'missing limb' syndrome into our practice to create innovative approach to making theatre.
The work in progress was then performed twice in front of the selected industry audience and then general public.
Later in a year the project was developed for the performance at Voila Europe! Theatre Festival.
